Rob Drops Out of 'Mission: Blacklist'

Robert Pattinson has exited “Mission: Blacklist,” an indie thriller about the hunt for Saddam Hussein, due to scheduling issues, TheWrap has learned.

First announced in May 2012, Pattinson was set to play military interrogator Eric Maddox, who spearheaded Hussein's capture.

That role will now be recast, and the filmmakers hope to start production this fall.

Swedish filmmaker Jesper Ganslandt remains attached to direct from a script by “Band of Brothers” scribe Erik Jendresen, Dylan Kussman and Trace Sheehan, who adapted Harper Collins’ 2008 book “Mission: Black List #1,” written by Maddox and Davin Seay.

Preferred Content's Ross Dinerstein is producing with Jendresen and Kevin Waller, as well as Bart Rosenblatt of Code Entertainment, which is also financing the film.

Pattinson has a busy spring with two films heading to Cannes — David Cronenberg's “Maps to the Stars” and David Michod's “The Rover.” He also recently wrapped the role of photographer Dennis Stock opposite Dane DeHaan's James Dean in Anton Corbijn's “Life.”

Looking ahead, Pattinson is attached to star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in James Gray's “The Lost City of Z” and the James Marsh thriller “Hold On to Me” with Carey Mulligan. He's repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment, Curtis Brown Group and attorney Robert Offer.

'Maps to the Stars' Production Notes - New Rob Quotes

THE LIMO DRIVER
“Plus we’re both dual-disorder”

When Agatha Weiss returns to Los Angeles, she makes an instant connection with the first person she encounters: her limo driver, a would-be screenwriter who chauffeurs the far more successful, and who becomes increasingly entangled in her larger-than-life drama.

Taking the role of Jerome is leading star Robert Pattinson, who wanted to work with Cronenberg again on the heels of taking the lead role in Cosmopolis (coincidentally, Pattinson played a billionaire who is a limo passenger throughout that film.)

He was one of the first cast members to sign on, which Martin Katz says helped buy the project. “Robert’s enthusiasm for Maps to the Stars is one of the things that really got us underway. Jerome is not a large role but it’s very significant in the story and his joining the cast gave us a terrific amount of momentum,” recalls the producer. “In a sense he is playing Bruce Wagner, who was himself at one time a limo driver and unemployed writer.”

Cronenberg was thrilled to reunite with Pattinson, and in such a different kind of role. “I think Rob was really happy to be part of an ensemble,” he says. “But Jerome is also a critical character, a lovely character and it was a chance for Rob to give a more naturalistic performance. I knew he would be fabulous and he was.”

Dane DeHann Talks about his Friendship with Rob

Dane DeHaan has revealed that he made no attempt to become friends with Robert Pattinson before they started filming Life

The Amazing Spider-Man actor stars alongside the Twilight heartthrob in Anton Corbijn's drama, focusing on the friendship between Life photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson) and Hollywood icon James Dean (De Haan).

"It's an interesting relationship that they have. They do become close in the film, and they do become friends, but they're not friends from the start," he said.

"So what we did is we didn't try to make any sort of friendship beforehand. We got there and that's when our friendship started. So as it was happening on screen, it was also happening in real life."

The 28-year-old said they bonded on set, adding: "He's a really nice guy. He's totally chill and he's fun to hang out with, and he's fun to be on set with. We had a great time."

Sir Ben Kingsley and Joel Edgerton also star in Life, which wrapped shooting on April 1.

"We just finished a week and a half ago," Dane said.

Life, which is now in post-production, is expected to be released later this year.

Kellan at the Abbot + Main Desert Estate Coachella Pool Party (April 11, 2014)

Update: 3 New Untagged Pics Added Below

New Kellan Interview: 'Expendables 3' Bulgarian Press Conference

When Stallone enters the conference room we've assembled in, you can tell he's exhausted, a trait that he shares with his character Barney Ross in the storyline for The Expendables 3. As the film opens, Barney's actually considering wrapping it all up, which is why there are so many younger faces in the cast this time around.

"Barney wants to retire them," Kellan Lutz says about the film's original crew. "They're getting old, so he wants to come after some new blood, wants them to think smarter. The younger generation is more tech savy."

In a coincidentally meta way, Lutz's comments on how the "new crew" gets connected into the plot of the film similarly reflect the real life reasons that the cast was added to the movie.

"Our stories, by and large, have been pretty much told," Stallone said. "So now we have to branch out and investigate other people's lives. You can only have so many times you go to that well and after a while you say, 'I'm sick of the taste of this water, give me something else.' Well you bring in a new spring and that's exactly what's happening, you have to do it all the time."

Lutz plays the role of Smilee in the film, the defacto leader of these "Young Expendables," and a character he says feels a lot like the young version of Stallone's Barney Ross.

"There's a scene that Sly and I have that he really gets through to me, when I have such a front on, and he actually speaks the lingo that I need to hear. As much as I throw him back and say F*ck off, he really gets to me and makes sense about what I'm doing with my life."

Hey team, I'm truly honored to be a part of so many great films and if not for the men and women behind the pens, these stories would never get told. With that said, let's all welcome, Creighton Rothenberger (one of the awesome The Expendables 3 screenwriters) to Facebook! -Kellan
